DAILY BREAD GAGE DUNHAM
Number 5 is alive through Gage Dunham. The 14-year-old from Golden, Colorado, showed exceptional talent in the 2024 racing season and has big plans heading into the new year. Whether it is practice laps or big nationals, Dunham is always going big, throwing massive whips and always going just a little bit longer. One of Dunham’s strongest traits is his corner speed. His ability to brake late and rail berms is up there with the very best of them. It’s not just his talent on the bike that makes Dunham so lethal on the race track. Gage’s incredibly strong mental fortitude and goal-oriented mindset command success and continue to foster an already impressive progression. In the off-season, Gage has invested some serious sweat equity to chase down his 2025 goals, which include a half-marathon, a 100-mile road bike ride, a 6:50 mile, and a perfect report card, just to name a few, and trust us; there is more. Dunham has been back home in the Rockies for training, where a typical day starts before the sun rises and ends long after dark with an intense training regimen, riding, school, and family time in between. Gage’s rise will know no boundaries in the new year. There is no doubt that his talent, work ethic, and growth mindset will send him home with a lot of hardware in the 2025 season.
Give us the basics (Name, age, hometown)
Gage Dunham, 14, Golden Colorado
What classes will you ride in 2025 and what are your goals?
For now, I’m racing in Supermini 1 and Supermini 2, but who knows—you might see me racing on a 125 or even a 250 next year! It all depends on how much I grow. My goals for next year are big: consistent top 3 finishes, 5 holeshots, better form on the bike, winning Loretta Lynn’s, and earning a factory ride. Off the bike, I’m aiming to complete a half marathon, run a 6:50 mile, build 10 lbs of muscle, do 50 push-ups in a row, complete a 100-mile road bike ride, and hit 5x 10Ks. In school, I’m pushing for all A’s, Star Student, a scholarship, a 4.0 GPA, and maybe even finish early! I also want to grow my Instagram to 4,000 followers and focus on consistent uploads and more content across social media.
Any unique pets?
I have three adorable miniature poodles that will make your heart melt! Leo is 11 years old, Evee is 3, and Luna is 2. I also have a yellow-eared turtle named Mikey, who is 7 years old, and a rose-hair tarantula named Parker, who I've had since I was 3—she's now 11! My pets bring so much joy to my life!
Favorite track and why?
It's a tough call for me between WW Ranch MX and Baja Brawl MX. I’m a huge fan of sand tracks! I love the layouts and how they stay moist throughout the day. Sand tracks really separate the boys from the men; they're super physical. Riding a 2-stroke on sand is a blast—you can just let that thing ring and rip!
What does training look like for you now?
For the last three years, I’ve been back home training, and it’s been awesome to be in Colorado, closer to family and friends. My training routine is pretty intense. I start my day at 6:00 am with a 500-calorie breakfast, including protein to fuel my muscles. By 7:30, I'm out the door on my road bike, heading to the gym for a 90-minute workout from 8:00 to 9:30. After biking back home, I shower, feed my pets, and dive into schoolwork from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.
After school, I tackle my to-do list, send out emails, and sometimes post on social media. Evenings are for dinner with family, and I’ll either hang out with friends, play MX Simulator for an hour, or hit the trails for a mountain bike ride with friends. Then it’s off to bed, ready to do it all over again!
How did you pick your number?
My favorite rider is Ryan Dungey. When I was 4 and 5 years old, I looked up to him and wanted to be just like him, which is why I chose the number 5. NUMBER 5 IS ALIVE!
What is on your bucket list?
My dreams and bucket list are packed with big goals! I want to race in the Amateur Motocross of Nations, complete an ultra marathon, and tackle a 100-mile road bike ride. I’d love to go mountain biking at Whistler Park in Canada, earn a Guinness World Record, and race in Europe. One of my biggest dreams is to ride alongside Ryan Dungey, Jeffrey Herlings—or even better, both! I’m aiming to become an AMA Pro Motocross Champion, FIM World Motocross Champion, AMA Pro Supercross Champion, AMA Pro SuperMotocross World Champion, and a Motocross of Nations World Champion
Activities outside of dirt bikes?
When I finally get some free time after training, finishing school, and tackling my to-do list, I love to go mountain biking, golfing, and snowboarding!
Have you ever been outside of the country?
When my family and I were invited by the Davila family to visit Costa Rica, we were excited to experience the beauty of their country and dive into their culture. One of our favorite discoveries was trying plantains for the first time. They look like bananas but have a taste and texture more like a potato – such a unique flavor! Pura Vida!
What is Grit?
Grit is the perseverance and unwavering commitment that drives someone to push toward their long-term goals, no matter how tough it gets. It’s that relentless spirit where you don’t quit, even on those days when you’d rather stay in bed because you were up late, it’s freezing outside, or you’re feeling a bit under the weather. You still get up, put in the work, and keep grinding because of the passion and love you have for what you’re doing. That’s what grit is: it’s what makes you stronger on the hardest days and sets the 1% apart from the 99%. To succeed, you have to be an A gamer—not a B gamer. I found this quote from Muhammad Ali, and I think it perfectly sums up grit: 'I hate every minute of training. But I said, don’t quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion.' It’s all about enduring the tough moments now for the chance to reach something amazing later. That’s what grit is—sticking with it, no matter how hard it gets, so you can come out a champion in the end.
#1 candy?
Sour Skittles are hands down the best!
Favorite Motoplayground race?
Baja Brawl is hands down my favorite Motoplayground race! The local Michigan fans bring so much energy – they go crazy! Plus, all the awesome events make it unforgettable: the Pit Bike Race, Best Whip Competition, Ronnie Mac, FMX stunts, and even Ranger throwing down backflips. Baja Brawl is easily one of my all-time favorite tracks!
