The number 47 of Colt Martin is an undeniable force on the motorcycle coming into 2025. The Alabama rider absolutely cleaned up at Gatorback Cycle Park for Mini O’s, placing top-10 overall in nine of the ten classes he raced and bringing back two championships.  In addition, Colt took home the Bronze Boot Award and the Pro Circuit Platinum Pipe Award. Colt collected a host of number-one plates in the 2024 racing season, winning championships at the Motoplayground Race at Ponca City, The Baja Brawl, and many more. The irrefutable speed of the 47 machine, paired with Colt’s innate ability to charge to the very end, makes him a serious threat to any and all that meet him on the race track. Colt kicked his 2025 year off right in Guthrie, Oklahoma, where he dominated the field at the arenacross championships. Martin went undefeated in the 85cc class and 1-2-1 in Mini Sr. to claim two championships and a 2nd overall finish in supermini. Colt’s intense passion for the top spot and natural ability to pilot the bike in uniquely difficult situations make him the leading candidate for champagne toasts in the new year. We got up with Colt to get the lowdown on the 4-7.

Give us the basics. (name, age, hometown)

Colt Martin, 13 years old from Talladega, Alabama

Tell us about getting your first motorcycle.

I got a PW 50 for Christmas when I was 4 years old. It had training wheels on it. When I first rode it my dad had a strap hooked to it so he could hold on to me to make sure I did not crash.  I had a beagle at the time, and I remember him getting the strap and running around with me.

Describe a typical day in your life.

I wake up and eat breakfast. I go through my stretching routine and then get ready to ride.  After training, I go to the gym and then come back and do schoolwork.  After I am done, I hang out with my friends.  If we are somewhere with a good pond, I like to go fishing. If I am not riding that day, I help my dad catch up on any bike work, get ahead on schoolwork and hang out with friends or play Mx Bikes.

If you were forced to have a non-athletic career, what would it be?

If I had to have a non-athletic career, I would be a Marine Biologist. I love marine life and really anything to do with animals.

Tell us about your funnest family member.

My funniest family member is my little brother. He is very quick-witted. Sometimes it is not always in my favor, but it is funny when it isn’t against me.

Best moment on a motocross bike.

My best moment in motocross is when I won both the Bronze Boot and Pro Circuit Platinum Pipe award at Mini O’s this past year. It felt good to see my hard work pay off.

Describe your training program.

I generally train 3 days a week.  Before riding, I have a stretch routine I go through. Then it is time to ride. An hour after riding I work out for about an hour.

Favorite pre-race meal?

Mexican style chicken and rice my mom makes.

Gnarliest crash you’ve ever had.

I have had some pretty gnarly crashes but the one that stands out was back in 2021. I raced during Halloween weekend and had a gnarly crash in sand that broke 3 ribs and ruptured my spleen. I was in the hospital for 3 days and out of riding for 2 months.

Best road trip story.

We were in Indiana for my first GNCC I competed in and on our way, we stopped and ziplined through the woods. It was a cool experience.

Worst road trip story.

About 3 years ago on our way out to Ponca, we had van trouble. Then on our way home after the race, it messed up again causing a 13-hour trip home to turn into about 20 hours.

What do you love about being at the track besides racing your bike?

Besides racing, hanging out with my friends is what I love about being at the track.  I love how this sport has allowed me to make friends all over.

What are you looking forward to getting out of this sport?

My goal is to win a 450 Supercross Championship.

Give some props to everyone helping you out.

First, I want to thank my mom, dad and little brother. They all make sacrifices for me to follow my dream.  This is a full team effort from all of us to make it happen. Also, I am thankful for awesome sponsors that have been with me that support me in reaching my goals: Roost Mx, FXR, Alpinestar, Oakley, Monster Army, Team EVS, Tamer Holeshot, Bel_Ray Company, FMF, Lynk’s Racing, Mika Metals, Factory Connection, T-Rex, Deft Family, HyrdroPower, Dunlop, Guts Racing and On Track School.

What are your superstitions, weird habits, or routines?

I have a certain way for putting my gear on and if I don’t do it that way, I feel like I do bad. Also, if I have more than one bad moto, I change my gear, gloves and goggles.

What is the fitness routine or training regimen off the bike?

I have a stretch routine I do every day.  I run twice a week and lift weights twice a week.

Give us a hot take.

The gnarlier the sand track the better.

Do you have any hidden talents or weird skills?

I am pretty good at hunting. I love to hunt turkey and deer.
