DAILY BREAD RILEY BUSSE
Riley Busse of New Berlin, Wisconsin, is one of the rising stars of the big bike classes. Riding for the RockRiver Gizmo Mods Factory Amateur Team for the 2025 season, Busse is dialed for continued progression and moto wins in the new year. The 404’s consistency at Mini O’s landed him 3 top-10 finishes on the SX track in the 250B Ltd, 450B Ltd, and Schoolboy 1 (12-17) B/C classes. Early in the 2024 season, Riley took home the number-1 plate at RCSX in Daytona and continued to put up impressive scores throughout the rest of the year. For training, Busse can be found at Moto Sandbox in Florida and the Shoals MX in South Carolina, battling every day with some of the best competition in the amateur ranks. Busse is a true multisport athlete. When he’s not on his dirt bike, he’s at the skatepark stomping tricks on his BMX, ripping down mountain bike trails, or backflipping his snowboard. Oh yeah, and he can drive a golf ball 300 yards. The sky is the limit for Riley Busse in 2025. His consistency, work ethic, and ability to send it big will make him very hard to beat this season. We sat down with the 404 to talk all things Riley Busse.
Give us the basics. (name, age, hometown)
My name is Riley Busse. I am 17 years old and live in New Berlin, Wisconsin.
Tell us about getting your first motorcycle.
My dad bought me my first motorcycle when I was two years old it was a PW 50 and had training wheels on it.
Describe a typical day in your life.
A typical day in my life starts with breakfast in the morning, followed by schoolwork, ride my motorcycle, eat dinner, and then hang with my friends.
If you were forced to have a non-athletic career, what would it be?
A job I would like to pursue if not motocross, would be an electrician. My brother Zack is an electrician and really seems to enjoy it.
Tell us about your funnest family member.
Funniest family member has to either be my father or my grandpa both usually have something off the wall to say – lol.
Best moment on a motocross bike.
My best and most memorable time on a motocross bike has to be winning at Daytona in 2024. What a great day!
Describe your training program.
My training program includes riding at Moto Sandbox in Florida and the Shoals MX facility in South Carolina. A typical day starts with stretching before putting a day of riding in. I usually do my daily workouts in the evening and then try to eat a healthy meal.
Favorite pre-race meal?
Pre-race meals include breakfast in the morning and depending on when I race, chicken and rice are my favorite pre-race foods.
Gnarliest crash you’ve ever had.
I’ve had a few good wipeouts on my bike, but one that sticks out is at Loretta‘s when I swapped coming into the Sand section on my 85 and high-sided pretty bad.
Best road trip story.
Moto makes for a lot of road trips and we try to make the best out of every one. My mom always tries to plan something along the way to where we are going or coming from. Last year, we raced a qualifier in New York and made sure to spend a day in the city while we were out there.
Worst road trip story.
One of my worst road trips was just recently while heading to the Shoals. We got stuck in a snowstorm and got sketchy a couple times with the truck and trailer.
What do you love about being at the track besides racing your bike?
The best part of being at the race track besides Racing is hanging out with friends. With this sport and all the travel, I’ve made friends all over the nation and it’s pretty awesome to see different people as we travel to different races.
What are you looking forward to getting out of this sport?
The sport of motocross has taught me so much, including how to put in hard work if I want results. My biggest goal would be to one day be a pro and race Supercross along with all the nationals.
Give some props to everyone helping you out.
I would like to give props to the Rock River/Gizmo mods Yamaha team. The team took a chance with me and I really appreciate all the support they give. I would also like to thank Mike Duclos and Donnie Luce from Yamaha Corp.
Other sponsors I’d like to shout out are Checkmate MX, FXR Moto, FTA addiction, Ethika, Decal Works, Scott, Dunlop, EVS, FMF, Tamer holeshot, and DID. Thank you also to Ryan Sipes, Moto Sandbox, The Shoals Mx, and of course Mom and Dad
What are your superstitions, weird habits, or routines?
One superstition I have is wearing a brand-new helmet. I have to drop it on the ground and put the first little scratch in it before I wear it and ride my bike.
What is the fitness routine or training regimen off the bike?
For my fitness off the bike I try to include things that are fun, including riding my BMX bike at skate parks, snowboarding in the winter at home, and mountain biking in the summer.
Give us a hot take.
Just like Ricky Bobby, if you ain’t first, your last.
Do you have any hidden talents or weird skills?
I can drive a golf ball 300 yards but can’t putt to save my life - lol
