KEN ROCZEN

In a rather unprecedented move, especially at this point in his career and within the 2024 season as a whole, Suzuki’s Ken Roczen aspired to compete in the 250MX classification as participants registered for the Ironman National. The crowd in Indiana would storm to the track’s perimeter to see the legend from Germany conduct operations amid the newfound class. He was exceptional throughout various practice laps, and dashed through the first few corners of moto-one with ambition that couldn’t be tamed. He would hover around the fifth-place standing, which was considered an optimal start for the 450cc veteran...battling with racers like Levi Kitchen and Ty Masterpool. By the ten-minute mark, Roczen would set-up a perfectly planned pass near the infield tabletop, crafting an array of lines that eventually overtook the number twenty-nine machine with immense aggression. He would stay within the top-five realm while seeking to strive for that of Jordon Smith, but in the meantime, Ty Masterpool would reignite his charge from previous laps — overtaking Roczen with just over ten minutes to go, which solidified Ken (at the time) in the aforementioned fifth-place position once more. However, at the twenty-five minute mark, Levi Kitchen would move around the German rider, deterring him to sixth. It seemed, at that point, that Roczen’s fatigue began to amplify — and as other riders would pass him not long before the finish line, Ken would roll across the checkered flag to acquire ninth before exiting the raceway. His efforts for the second moto would place him around the eleventh-place standing, before he moved into eighth by the second circuit! Roczen was rather bold with his line selection during the opening laps, making countless outside passes while willing to use the far edges of the track as a place to gain time on his opponents. He then would pass his way into sixth, after advancing around Ty Masterpool and Max Anstie...seeking to do the same when in competition with R.J. Hampshire. Though the Husqvarna athlete seemed to possess just a bit more speed than that of Roczen as they made their way into the final stages of the contest...which forced Ken to then battle with Ty Masterpool once more. The Kawasaki rider was hard to contain, and ultimately made his way around before Roczen began to slightly lessen his pace. It was evident, that his momentum was no longer ascending at the rate it once was — as opponents like Julien Beaumer, Max Anstie, and multiple others would make their way forward. The crowd would continue to cheer, despite Roczen descending to twelfth...where he resided at the checkered flag — which gave him ninth overall, for a commendable effort among the 250MX division.
