AARON PLESSINGER

The fan-favorite returned to the course yet again in Maryland, and the crowd would cheer for Ohio’s Aaron Plessinger as he rounded the circuit in practice. His style was pristine, and he appeared efficient aboard the KTM chassis before transferring into the first moto. The action was intense as the green flag waved, but Plessinger was able to occupy first as both Hunter Lawrence and Justin Cooper immediately collided. Plessinger would take the opportunity, and run with it per se, until battling (and losing positions) to both Hunter Lawrence and Chase Sexton. Once into third, Plessinger would notice that there was an ample gap between he and Eli Tomac...though he couldn’t become too relaxed, with the former champion constantly ascending with speed as the moto progressed. Therefore, he would periodically glance to lanes of the raceway that were behind him, noting where the Yamaha stood as he barreled through the course at the height of the KTM transmission. Simultaneously, he was receiving information from his mechanic as to how much time remained in the moto. Therefore with three laps to go, it seemed as if Plessinger unleashed an all-out dash to the finish line, which in the end, was sufficient enough to thwart Tomac’s ambition of capturing a podium for this moto. Earning third as the dust settled, Aaron’s moto score was well-respected and kept him on an optimal path to a final podium. Aaron’s opening run per se to begin the second moto was applaud-worthy, where he nearly passed for the lead on the opening lap, but would be overtaken by Hunter Lawrence as minutes had transpired. He continued to fight for the pinnacle position, despite being hounded by Chase Sexton who was in third. The two would battle after Sexton overtook him, and even after Chase had crashed (resulting in “AP” moving to second), the tandem would once again meet just before the twenty-minute mark. In the exact same spot of the passing transaction that had previously transpired, Chase would surpass him once more — leaping to the inside in a cross-cutting maneuver before the finish line, which finally pushed Plessinger to third once and for all. He was far from discouraged though, and continued to power to the checkered flag with quite the gap between he and others behind him. In the end, at the conclusion of the seventeen-lap contest, it was Plessinger’s final moto result (of third) that equated him to a well-respected bronze medal overall accolade as well, before departing from Budds Creek.
