Yamaha’s Jordon Smith had withstood a multitude of injuries throughout his racing career thus far, but the native of North Carolina continued to return to competition with fearlessness — and prepared to do battle with the best from around the world once more, while competing in Minnesota on Saturday. His practice efforts would lead to a fifteenth-place being obtained, before embarking on the first moto, where he secured twelfth at the green flag. From there, he aspired to show his prowess from the earliest years of his professional career, and even amateur ranks...where the athlete out of Belmont was a constant threat to battle for podiums, among the best riders in the world. Smith’s ability to attack the sharpest corners on the circuit was next level, and a tool within his arsenal of tactics that enabled him to progress as minutes would pass on Saturday. He had moved into eleventh by lap four, prior to passing Jalek Swoll to obtain the tenth-place position. At that point, he could see familiar rivals (i.e. Max Anstie and Joey Savatgy), not too far ahead...and he would use a multitude of outside pathways to sustain momentum, en route to diminishing the gap between he and the previously noted opponents. By lap eleven, he had passed both of them — and would overtake Ty Masterpool on the next circuit! His ascension was phenomenal, and as the checkered flag was thrown for this first moto showcase, it was Smith who claimed the sixth-place position, trailing Chance Hymas as all was finalized. Despite being caught within the chaos, of the first turn pile-up for moto-two, Jordon Smith was constantly pursuing higher position(s) within the 250MX standings. He had steadily garnered momentum throughout the championship thus far, and would do so within the muddy conditions of the second moto as well. He would disregard the rear wheel as it spun for traction atop various jump-faces, clutching the Yamaha engine with a rapid feathering as he dove through hard-packed inside grooves. Smith had advanced from a twenty-fifth place standing on the green flag lap, to that of fourteenth on lap four. But the following circuits were rather treacherous to get through, with lines now breaking-down rather rapidly, along with the occasional lapped or downed rider, coming into play. Nevertheless, he would battle alongside names like Ty Masterpool and Jett Reynolds en route to the checkered flag. Though being surpassed by the Texas native, he would mimic the line selection of the previously noted Californian while traveling to the finish line...which enabled him to keep Pierce Brown and Nicholas Romano behind him. Despite Jalek Swoll surpassing him in the latter minutes of the moto as well, Smith’s final result of thirteenth, was enough to cement his name into the ninth-overall position amid the 250MX record book.
