The tenacity that one must display in order to succeed in Massachusetts, would be hard to describe. This circuit was world-renowned, and forced athletes to put forth the highest of aptitude, while remaining steadfast in their speed(s) throughout thirty-minute (plus) moto’s! It was truly a spectacle for fans to see, especially as they located one of their favorites, Jordon Smith, in the early morning hours. The attitude of the 250MX veteran portrayed one of confidence...where he arced his corners while never letting off of the throttle, and slashed his way through berms as if he were carving his way onto a magazine cover! It appeared rather effortless for the rider out of North Carolina but he knew that opponents like teammate Haiden Deegan, and KTM’s Tom Vialle were going to make the road to the podium rather difficult. He’d never backed-down from a challenge before, however, and used his confidence as a means of occupying eleventh amid the first laps of moto-one. His output of RPM and aggression aboard the Yamaha machine was evident as he crested various inside rollers, hopping a few feet from the summit of the mound, in order to acquire just a few, more milliseconds on those who trailed. The amount of wash-outs on the Southwick circuit that were being presented by the tenth lap were quite obvious, but he made sure to remain vigilant as the top-soil of the racing surface had now been flung away. And throughout the final four laps, the fight for seventh between he and Pierce Brown was on...but he remained composed under pressure, to occupy the eventual standing of seventh before exiting the raceway. It was then time to put his best effort forward for the second moto, and though the top athletes on the track (i.e. Deegan, Shimoda, and Vialle) were going rather fast, he wasn’t going to let anyone bully him in regard to leaping over his current standing on the leaderboard. He seemed to be in a stellar flow when occupying the eighth-place position, riding just behind Chance Hymas while weaving through the infield of the course. Though he would eventually overtake the Honda rider, while also doing the same to Ty Masterpool, leaving him sixth before undergoing a battle with Joey Savatgy. Though Savatgy was just a bit older in age, the two had competed against one another extensively in the past...creating quite the chess match on this Southwick course when nearing the checkered flag. Smith’s persistence was key, and in the final stages when the athlete aboard the number thirty-one machine would make the pass (on Savatgy), he would also keep Kawasaki’s Levi Kitchen at bay...earning fourth place in the moto, for seventh overall!
