CHANCE HYMAS

Honda’s Chance Hymas had reached new territory in recent weeks, and yearned to continue on that trajectory for the Southwick national. His line selection in qualifying was top-tier, and the athlete aboard the number forty-eight was set to make an impact for moto-one, as the thirty-second board would go sideways. The Idaho native would immediately contend for the second-place position alongside Levi Kitchen, and before the first lap had ended, the Honda athlete had taken over the number-two ride with the Washington native now trailing. In the process of the next few laps, Tom Vialle had moved into third...and eventually caught Chance, when nearing the halfway point. Hymas didn’t have any other choice, but to obligé and allow Vialle to overtake the standing. Now third, he could sense that Washington’s Levi Kitchen was steadily maintaining an admirable margin behind him — but he wasn’t going to fold under pressure. Minute by minute, he kept the Northwest native at bay...and even as the margin diminished to just over one-second in the final stages, Hymas remained engaged and present — claiming third at the finish line, respectively. Following the red flag restart, to begin the second contest, Hymas resided around the seventh-place standing before undergoing a battle with Jordon Smith. Smith fought forward, while Hymas did his best to remain strong among the endless braking bumps on the course. Accelerating through the tallest of berms, Hymas latched onto Levi Kitchen after making the pass on Ty Masterpool, near the twelfth circuit — and once behind the Washington native, it was as though a second charge to the front of the field would be conducted. He could see both, Joey Savatgy and Jordon Smith not far ahead when nearing the checkered flag, and knew both veteran riders would be rather savvy. But even with the lack of experience on this Southwick course, the true talent of the Idaho native would shine. Into the final moments he charged, noticing that Savatgy’s speed had substantially deterred and a mistake of sorts had been undergone...therefore he pounced, and strove for Jordon Smith simultaneously — which as a result, enabled him to overtake the Triumph rider. Therefore as he rounded the final right-handed bend and crested the concluding double, it was Hymas who earned fifth for the moto...while also occupying fourth in the overall standings, to remain in the fight for the series championship.
