JETT LAWRENCE
Aspiring to rejuvenate the flow and aura that led him to twenty-four straight moto victories, Jett Lawrence knew that the task of victory would be difficult, with the injuries sustained at the Hangtown National. However, if anyone could do it, it would be the athlete from Australia — and after leaping into the practice rounds of Saturday’s festivities with unwavering ambition, Jett appeared to be firing in every aspect of race-craft, as gate(s) dropped for the opening moto of the afternoon program. He would hover around fifth-place, after solidifying his machine ahead of Chase Sexton and after going back and forth with the Illinois native, appeared to be presenting a fighting spirit that would be difficult for anyone to topple. Sexton remained behind him, while Jett would pass Justin Barcia as he began to subside in speed for a few moments...taking the position on lap six. He (Jett) then followed the pathways of his brother Hunter, as Jason Anderson began to look back with a bit of fatigue being presented. Lawrence capitalized as his elder family member (i.e. Hunter) would do, and moved into the third-place position, not long after the first turn area on the seventh lap of action. He could then see Justin Cooper out front, and as minutes began to transpire, the pace of the Lawrence brothers, seemed to definitively override the speed that Justin was putting forth. Therefore, with roughly three minutes left on the clock, Jett surpassed Cooper in the right-handed bend before the finish line...taking the runner-up position, with only Hunter Lawrence now ahead. But even with amplifying ambition, Jett couldn’t complete the ultimate goal, of taking the moto victory — as his brother defended the first place standing through the finish line, and forced Jett to reside in the silver medal registry, as all concluded for moto-one. In the second moto, he and Jason Anderson were immediately participating in a strenuous battle...passing each other back and forth, until the number one definitively put his machine ahead at the green flag. He was running fourth, to his brother at that point (with Hunter occupying third), until a crash from Chase Sexton allowed multiple riders to inherit a further standing as the fourth lap came to fruition. The narrative of a “three-rider race” for the lead, appeared to then be the scenario that was unfolding...with Cooper leading both brother’s around for substantial amount of time. However, on the eleventh lap, Jett’s pace was too much for Hunter to combat — and the number one, was spotted hopping through off-set rollers before the fly away Monster Energy jump...claiming second, with swift action! Jett had now made his way into second, with around five minutes left on the clock...and he prepared for an assault on the rear wheel of Yamaha’s Justin Cooper. A myriad of tactics and line choices were put forth on behalf of the Australian — and with a mistake by the number thirty-two machine, Cooper’s outside line choice (and slower(ed)) rhythm in the combination of jumps behind the starting gate, enabled Lawrence to make his way by! Jett sliced through the inside of the forthcoming left-hander, and took the lead (definitively) when powering atop the uphill! It was an all-out dash to the finish line, but Jett took the pressure from both, his brother and Cooper, and used it as a catalyst to propel him through the final four laps with the lead...claiming the moto win of the sixteen-lap contest, and obtaining the overall victory, as well!
