With so-called “normalized” track conditions, rookie Julien Beaumer was ecstatic to show his skills once more inside a stadium in which he excelled in the past. Whether in Supercross Futures of season’s past, or opener for this year, Beaumer flourished within this venue — and continued on that trajectory throughout practice on Saturday. Though the pattern to navigate the whoops was toggled between jumping and skimming, he found a way to accelerate at a phenomenal rate prior to all of qualification concluding...and once into the opening main event, Beaumer set out to thrash the course with a plethora of stunning rhythm combinations. Doing his best to conduct quads and triples alike, he remained precise while within a standing inside the top eleven; making sure to keep his outlook on the foreground. Floating over the finish line with effortless maneuvering, he arced the corner thereafter despite Honda’s Jo Shimoda being only seconds behind his rear wheel. Safeguarding the insides that followed while then extending the gap in the whoop section(s) was critical; though a mistake on the fifth circuit would (briefly) deter his momentum. Ultimately his ability to power forward through troublesome circumstances led to a comfortable cushion per se being established (over Mitchell Oldenburg) as the final two laps came to fruition. Eventually generating a standing of twelfth, he quickly returned to the KTM pit area. He was then ready for the following main event as well, and within the first few laps of the mid-evening race he hovered around tenth. The number 929 seemed to choreograph a flow that was unmistakeable and a definite separator in the final segment of the racetrack. Sweeping onto the start straightaway with an abundance of throttle, he tracked into the latter left-hand corner with perfect balance, squaring up the nearly ninety-degree corner that followed (while diverting from the exit ruts) and seat-hopping his way into the platform of doubles that followed. His stamina was impressive, and allowed him to catch the likes of Ryder DiFrancesco and Anthony Bourdon while battling with Honda’s Jo Shimoda. Though the number thirty ultimately was too much to overcome, Beaumer’s sprint in the final moments enabled him to secure fifth...just ahead of the Frenchman. Doing his best to leap from the launchpad with optimal wheel-spin, Beaumer dove into the first few laps of the last main event in a standing that was near single digits, retaining ninth as the fourth circuit was completed while his back tire fought for any bit of top soil he could find. Compressing the suspension over the double just before the “SX” triple, he kept watch on opponents like Carson Mumford, who were paralleled to him in the rhythm section that was to his left but were approaching his rear wheel rather quickly. The halfway point was passed, and then the three-quarter mark; with the goal of a strong overall being within his grasp. He eventually put forth a charge that overtook the likes of Garrett Marchbanks and Anthony Bourdon, showing resilience at the “breaking point” of much of the field due to fatigue and strenuous motos. Though the ClubMX Yamaha rider would work his way back around, Beaumer’s eventual residency of sixth was enough to solidify seventh overall on the overall results sheet.
