The red-plate holder believed that he could carry the previous momentum garnered, and keep the ball rolling per se as the lights of the night show appeared in Anaheim. Returning to Angel Stadium once more for the 250cc West Coast SX Championship, Smith blazed a superb trail across the layout for practice — which was noted by fans and competitors alike, long before the gate(s) crashed to the ground for moto one of the Triple Crown format. Once there though, the Yamaha athlete surged through the opening moments with determination and a relentless will to establish his presence, despite undergoing a huge mistake that would have him in fourteenth at the completion of the first full lap (after making many passes before then). Smith had the bigger picture in mind, and proceeded to fight with tremendous grit while eventually making his way into the top-ten, and single digit finishes thereafter. Athletes like Talon Hawkins, Hunter Yoder, and Phil Nicoletti would be surpassed before he made his way by Garrett Marchbanks; and in the closing moments, he would put forth a bit more momentum than that of opponent Ryder DiFrancesco...to conclude the moto and rebound for a hard-earned fourth. Though his start to moto two was rather disastrous, when he was involved in a first turn pile-up with multiple riders including his teammate Nate Thrasher...and another crash immediately thereafter would have the visor broken and Smith down amongst a whoop section! Refusing to quit, Smith was battered and bruised but never discredited. And as the duration of the main event transpired, the red-plate holder would somehow work his way to eighth on the overall leaderboard. Hovering around the top-five in the earliest stages of moto three, he, Shimoda, and Hampshire were in a bar to bar battle to move forward. Shimoda appeared to be moving at a faster pace than he, therefore as he watched Jo travel to the rear wheel of the Honda rider, Smith would attempt to do much the same. Simultaneously, Smith made passes on Anthony Bourdon and Hampshire (due to a mistake by the latter) which enable Jordon to occupy fourth on the seventh circuit. His pace at this point was comfortable, and solid enough to be sustained until the checkered flag was thrown — concluding the moto with a notable fourth-place run for fifth overall, in the highly competitive 250SX class.
