The continuous streak of excellent results was once again displayed on behalf of Texas’ Ty Masterpool as the third round of the SMX Playoff’s came to fruition. Though known to excel on the outdoor circuit, Ty had certainly proved to all in the industry that his talents were destined to translate to the “SX” course for both now, and the foreseeable future. For qualification, it was evident that the Kawasaki athlete was comfortable in the sand as he leapt through the difficult roller section with composure; letting the chassis work with efficiency before blasting his way into the hard-packed facets of the raceway thereafter. This mantra carried into the first moto, where he did his best to emerge seventh on the first lap before advancing into sixth on the circuit thereafter (due to Justin Barcia crashing) which subsequently caused a red flag. With the race now halted and the field forced to realign on the start straightaway, it was Masterpool who then attached his pace to Yamaha’s Cooper Webb for a significant amount of circuits thereafter. However, he couldn’t ignore the intense pace in which Garrett Marchbanks had broadcast — where the Utah native was continuously pursuing his rear wheel and forcing Masterpool to ride at some of his highest pace(s) of the day. Though ultimately passed by the number thirty-six before all was said and done, Masterpool would still manage to keep opponents like Dean Wilson at bay...after tremendously battling with Colt Nichols and Adam Cianciarulo, respectively. As engines were eventually cued to cease as he crested the final double, it was Ty who claimed ninth in the running order prior to moving into the second Moto of the evening. As the intensity of the following main event immediately spiked, Masterpool emerged eleventh from the first lap of fierce feuding to prove that he could sustain a ride near (or inside) the top-ten once more. Flying amongst the elevation as if he were on an outdoor circuit, he stayed in an attack-ready stance before leaping into the largest takeoff in the sand section while being hounded by Grant Harlan and Phil Nicoletti. Doing his best to maintain a paralleled trajectory to Aaron Plessinger, Garrett Marchbanks, and Freddie Noren who were on the horizon, it was Masterpool’s consistency that was the ultimate catalyst in his accrual of ninth in round two — which equated to an exceptional seventh-place overall in the record book.
