The Californian would look to end his outdoor tenure with a strong showing in the Midwest, for Saturday’s racing action in Crawfordsville. There was little to address, in regard to his riding style, that needed to be fixed prior to embarking on the clay-ridden circuit known as Ironman. The number thirty-four had been spectacular in weeks past, and managed to showcase a similar sense of speed and technicality to secure eighth on the overall leaderboard prior to advancing to the point(s) paying races thereafter. Once here, he would inherit a tenth-place standing on lap number-one while watching the likes of Jo Shimoda, Ryder DiFrancesco, and Haiden Deegan attempt enact a stellar pace just ahead of him. At that point, Vohland could be seen manual(ing) his way through the rollers while attacking the finish-line section with aggression — sweeping from the furthest left portions of the straightaway thereafter, and into the adjacent corner with his eyes focusing on approaching bumps, pot-holes, and grooves alike. This would enable him to move into ninth, decisively, after passing Preston Kilroy when nearing the halfway point. Talon Hawkins was the next opponent to surpass, which he would do with excellent speed amongst the elevation change(s) just after the start. But upon hearing Hunter Lawrence and Levi Kitchen behind him, Vohland seemed to portray an increase in speed in the switchback section closest to the finish-line...which would defend his standing over the Australian for a significant amount of time. And despite being passed by both of the aforementioned riders, it was still considered a remarkable run by all in his supporting cast — where Vohland would secure eighth prior to moving into the next round of racing. As the pins to the starting gate(s) unlatched, all in the field would again try and deter Ryder “D” from breaking away from the pack. Vohland would start near twelfth, and began to work his way (rather methodically) through the field with a series of swift moves through various off-cambered corners. He was persistent on the outside foot-peg when approaching the takeoff to the longest rhythm lane, tripling with his front-end high to soften the landing, before manual(ing) through the rollers thereafter with tremendous precision. This would enable him to keep the likes of Pierce Brown and Stilez Robertson at bay with Hunter Lawrence pressuring him, too. But Vohland wasn’t going to let a lapse of focus on behalf of the champion force him into an error, and instead, through the seventeenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth laps of the moto, Maximus remained resilient — leading to another eighth-place moto score, for ninth in the final standings, respectively.
