Yet again, would the dominant reign of Jett Lawrence continue as the round of racing at High Point Raceway came to pass. Though the track conditions looked rather bleak in practice, where he and dozens of other 450cc athletes would acquire qualifying times amongst muddy conditions, Lawrence managed to thrive as the track continued to (slowly) dry amid afternoon hours. For moto number one, Jett’s reaction time from the starting gate was excellent; and allowed him to push his way to the first-place position and create a lead that embodied a comfortable pace. He was flowing on this racetrack with little error, replicating his persona of the first three rounds, even with Ken Roczen now entered into the 450cc division! Lap after lap, Lawrence remained calculated with little worry at the front of the field — looking as if he would soar to victory unscathed, and without problem from anyone else in the pack. That was until, a crucial mistake would lead to a crash in the valley of the final step-up, before the shaded left-hander on the far side of the course; and Jett would be forced to remount in the third-place designation, while proceeding to track-down both Garrett Marchbanks and Ken Roczen, as quickly as possible! Lawrence would proceed to pass the ClubMX Yamaha rider just before entering into the downhill roller section (around the seventeen-minute mark) prior to excelling to the rear wheel of Ken Roczen with just under five minutes remaining on the clock! Without a visor, Jett would sweep from outside to inside when diving into the shaded corner (not long before the finish line), where his rolling speed on the right side of the raceway was unparalleled! This would lead to a series of outside lines being generated; and a pass was then made shortly thereafter, in the switchbacks just after the downhill roller section — leading to Lawrence taking the lead with under three minutes left on the clock. Ultimately moving forward to assemble victory, Lawrence’s win in this moto would prove that his resilience on the 450ccm machine was top-tier. For round number two, his starting position inside the top-five was prominent, but not quite the hole-shot he was used to accruing! This had him battling amongst various factory riders, and just behind Aaron Plessinger (who was third) when heading into the shaded, left-handed corner not long before the finish line. Unfortunately Plessinger would wash out at this point, and force Lawrence to come to a stop, with nowhere to go! Jett was fortunate to only lose a few seconds and one position to Dylan Ferrandis; but the Australian then quickly made his way around the Yamaha rider, and had his sights set on Adam Cianciarulo (who was second). For numerous laps, the number eighteen would watch the number nine from afar...prior to making a calculated move on “AC” on the ninth circuit, with an inside pass just prior to the tunnel jump that began the downhill roller section! Now into a runner-up designation, he then strove to overtake Ken Roczen as quickly as possible...and that process was completed with a daring outside move when approaching the finish-line section (via the first-uphill of the switchback segment) where he out-powered his way to the right of the Suzuki rider, followed by a daring scrub to finalize the pass! Only a few minutes remained at this point, and Jett would excel as the track became tougher — ultimately leading to another victory being established with the waving of the checkered flag, and one more dominant overall being claimed within this 2023 championship!
