The talent of Jett Lawrence would be undeniable after his season opening performance at Fox Raceway, where the Australian was sensational throughout both moto’s in Pala, California. And with his teammate Chase Sexton now absent from the series as racing in Hangtown came to fruition, there was little argument (prior to the first moto beginning) as to whom would be contending for the lead when the green flag was eventually thrown. Following an incredible series of practice laps, (where Jett assembled the fastest time of anyone by over two-seconds), the number eighteen would be preparing to engage in that same realm of velocity as the gate(s) fell for the first race of the afternoon. Nevertheless, it was Lawrence who absolutely created a spectacular line around the outside of turn two (nearly swapping, but never letting off the throttle) en route to claiming the lead prior to landing the flyaway jump that followed! Lawrence now had a clear track at his disposal and would take advantage of the open layout; where he was as fluid as any rider ever on the professional outdoor circuit, creatively piecing together lines that were impeccable and of the smoothest trajectories. After five minutes or so, his gap over Dylan Ferrandis had reached roughly two-seconds...and would double after twelve to fifteen minutes of action, before eventually turning into over seven-seconds at one point in time. He seemed to simply manage the race once he was in the leading designation, proving that his talent was next level and solidifying the case to be considered one of the best riders in the world. Lawrence would make this sixteen-lap process look easy, but all who watched knew that the track and level of competition were far from that...but as he eventually rolled into victory lane, he was set on doing much the same for the second moto as well. He would avoid major pile-up’s after being pinched by Dylan Ferrandis in the opening corners...but somehow managed to obtain the lead on the initial hillside prior to embarking on the initial switchback/off-cambered section! There seemed to be no way that the Australian rider could be this crafty with his passes and maneuvering of the 450cc engine, but in the laps that followed there was nothing to refute in regard to his prowess on the motorcycle. As minutes passed, Lawrence remained solid and unwavering at the pinnacle of the field; making daring moves look effortless while flowing from corner to corner, and using the deteriorating racing surface to his advantage as laps were amassed. Every so often, he would take a glance over his shoulder to see battles going on behind him, but he was never bothered or hurried en route to the checkered flag that waved at the conclusion of this sixteen lap contest; taking yet another win, en route to an overall victory in Hangtown as well!
