Though he was already declared champion, Jett Lawrence’s competitive spirit would be a trait that couldn’t be ignored; and as practice began on Saturday, it was apparent that Jett was aiming for the highest position on the leaderboard. Regardless of if he were moving to the 450cc Championship in the near future, Lawrence’s mindset was focused on the present and capturing the highest honor prior to the outdoor series beginning. Jett’s start for the heat though, as weather conditions began to worsen, seem to foster a bit of hesitancy in regard to his usual charging antics. Even when battling with Carson Mumford (for third), Lawrence wasn’t displaying his patented quick bursts and remained methodical with his throttle twisting amongst the slick Utah canvas. Lawrence would eventually take over the third place position, after residing in fourth for the entirety of five laps...yet by the time he’d passed the Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki rider, the gap that Levi Kitchen (first) and RJ Hampshire (second) was too much to overcome. Therefore the red-plate holder would claim third prior to heading to the main event. Once here, the gate(s) would crash to the ground and Lawrence was almost declared as the initial leader; but Husqvarna’s RJ Hampshire had done enough to out-power the rest of the 250cc roster and took an initial claim to victory. But Lawrence was just behind, and remained persistent when trying to search the raceway for ways around the Floridian. He would follow Hampshire for quite sometime, until finding an opportunity to make a move forward, in the corner after the whoops with just under eight and a half minutes to go on the clock! The Honda rider pushed into the left shroud of Hampshire with a demanding force, and seemingly took the lead from his grasp prior to leaping into the following rhythm lane. Now with a clear track (albeit, with lappers ahead) Lawrence was able to settle into a pace that no-one could match. It was evident that his talent was world-renowned as he managed the victory amongst the best from both coasts. And as the clock struck zero, the white flag was displayed...and with only seconds separating Lawrence from the finish line, an outpouring of fist pumps and waves to the crowd would accompany an outright win; concluding a phenomenal 250cc career, as he headed into the 450cc Outdoor championship, with tremendous momentum!
