Knowing that staying mistake-free amongst this challenging Seattle circuit would be critical, Christian Craig appeared “locked-in” to the task at hand as the green flag waved for the makeshift practice schedule for round eleven of the 2023 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series. The tarps had come off, and he immediately portrayed a flow that synched the track together surprisingly well. His Husqvarna was flourishing, and after a few laps of establishing his name onto the top portion(s) of the leaderboard, he would exit the racetrack and head into the mechanic’s area; being briefed on the competition while sparing both his bike and energy level(s) for the night show that laid ahead. He then watched from afar as 250cc heat racing would take off and engrave a multitude of lines throughout the racing surface, with many on the lower(ed) displacement engines creating a myriad of grooves at the bottom of particular takeoff’s (including in the rhythm section that was just after the first turn). He was able to take all of that into consideration though, and proceeded to leap (by way of doubling and tripling) through the varying degree of lips, while holding down the first-place residency ahead of Aaron Plessinger and Adam Cianciarulo! His smooth style would be broadcast throughout all of the raceway, particularly in facets that had more than five to six ruts scattered across the raceway. The left-handed corner at the end of the longest rhythm lane would be critical, where he continuously arced his way from right to left before leaping onto the straightaway that housed the mechanic’s area, nearly clipping the pit board from his accompanying member of the team while red-lining the motor in third gear! His aggression couldn’t be blanketed, even with the daring, Aaron Plessinger, some two-seconds behind him as they past the halfway point. If at any point he lost focus on the countless ruts ahead of his front tire, then he was certain to fall victim to a subsequent mistake that could rob him of a transfer position. Nevertheless, he stayed the course and pressed forward through the final two laps of the moto, accruing a spectacular heat race victory before the final race of the evening would begin while keeping Aaron Plessinger behind him! At that point, twenty-two racers would explode into the first turn with little regard for the lack of traction beneath their wheels. Craig, would duck his visor while keeping the throttle twisted, feeling the immense muck plaster onto his helmet while attempting to stay with the lead pack. Riders would be falling in various directions, but as he maintained a flow with patented double sequences (like before the left-handed corner, that crossed the start straightaway), his Husqvarna remained on the correct trajectory before entering into the first turn area. All seemed to be well through the first lap, until a mistake would drop him to twenty-second on the leaderboard; which would cause many in his “boots” to crumble, but Craig’s attrition wasn’t going to subside that easily. Instead, he rallied forward by passing riders in bundles, continuously seeking advancement as laps were amassed. Moving from just inside the top twenty, to that of fifteenth, and eventually knocking on the door of a top-ten overall! It was then, in the final three laps that Craig made his way by both, Justin Hill and Dean Wilson; proving that his inability to quit was top-tier, while continuously clawing for a single digit overall. Cemented in ninth, Craig’s accrual of this position would be noticed by all who watched; respected by enthusiasts from around the world as the round of Seattle concluded.
