The New Mexico native would be eager to push into the top of field while residing at Lucas Oil Stadium; where a marred track was there platform to compete on, from the moment the green flag was thrown in practice. Doing his best to triple-triple through the section preceding the finish line, the longest rhythm lane (that converged with turn number one) would be full of off-set singles, with irregular lips and a difficult tabletop in the middle that was extremely abrupt. However Anderson would toy with a few different combinations, displaying his versatility by leaping into third place on the leaderboard while exhibiting a number of sequences. He would toggle through his arsenal of tricks for the opening instances of heat number one as well, where Eli Tomac led the field around. Following just behind Chase Sexton and Aaron Plessinger, Anderson was methodical about his line choices on the Indianapolis circuit; using his weight precisely while powering through ruts of all sizes. He could see from afar that Tomac was fading ever so slightly, and that Sexton (and Plessinger) would eventually move around. This would lead to lap seven, where Jason would follow the aforementioned opponents and blast past the Colorado native in the whoop section and corners to follow; taking hold of the third place position with only two circuits remaining. Once solidified, there was little that could derail him from this standing, and he would finish here with flying colors shortly thereafter. For the main event, his starting position of sixth place would quickly be improved after passing Justin Hill; however by laps three and four he fell victim to being passed by Justin Barcia and Aaron Plessinger. Barcia was on another level, making up time in all facets of the raceway while Anderson continued to leap through the longest rhythm lane by popping over the abrupt tabletop and into the triple that followed. The whoops were now entrenched with lines that spanned over forty feet long, yet Anderson continued to blitz them when possible; which allowed him to move around Adam Cianciarulo around the halfway point of the moto. All the while, he was hounded by Eli Tomac, but the red plate holder wasn’t in his usual form and couldn’t make his way past the number twenty-one machine. Moving forward (all the while) with a crash from Chase Sexton, Anderson would be solidified in fifth as the moto came closer to the checkered; concluding the twenty-seven lap tenure here, while grabbing a noteworthy sum of points.
