After thorough discussion, all involved with Haiden Deegan’s racing plan(s) would agree that it was best for the Yamaha rider to make his professional debut at the opening round of the 2023 East Coast SX Series, in Houston, Texas. The faith they had in the number 238 after viewing his tremendous practicing efforts throughout the off-season, along with his speed at the Anaheim “SX Future’s” event would be undeniable; and would accompany him as he took to the track at NRG stadium on Saturday. He would ride extremely well during practice, blending phenomenal speed with savvy style that was flashy and efficient. Every part of the layout would be mastered by the amateur standout and had him on track to do well prior to racing ever beginning. He was then stationed into heat number two, and would begin the exhibition in fifth; just behind the veteran, Jeremy Martin, as they funneled into lap number two. Deegan would hound the former outdoor champion, seeing an opening prior to passing the finish-line while simultaneously claiming the fourth-place residency! That alone was a statement in itself as he then fought to overtake Tom Vialle. Hitting the whoops with confidence while maintaining strength and technique through the sand, would be optimal attributes that had him appearing well on his way to qualifying for his first ever main event. Shortly thereafter he would accomplish the task at hand and would be finalized in fourth before heading back to the pit area. It was then easy to suspect that Deegan wanted more, as he rolled to the line with confidence prior to the gate(s) of the main event falling. Shifting into gear as the thirty-second board then went sideways, he would fight for an admirable ninth-place on lap number one before beginning his charge to the front. One by one, Deegan exhibited a veteran-like demeanor; slashing his way with a series of intricate moves that were cast on all facets of the raceway. Diverting from usual ruts, while cutting amid one-eighty degree(d) corners, would allow him to move forward (and around) seasoned opponents who stood in his way. It looked as though sixth-place was going to be his standing, until critical mistakes by Tom Vialle and Jeremy Martin (on the last lap) would catapult him to fourth! This ride (and overall result) were incredible for Deegan, who showcased his true talent and an incredible outlook for what was to come in the future!
