Darren Pine has been lighting up the competition in the 65cc (7-9) classes throughout the 2020 racing season, grabbing a number one plate at all three of the official Dirty 100 events that he’s contested. The Texan got off to winning ways in his home state at Spring A Ding Ding, going 1-1 in the 65cc (7-9) class on his way to a dominant 1st place overall finish. Although his main focus was in the (7-9) divisions, the Cobra rider also managed to achieve an impressive top ten overall in the more experienced 65cc (7-11) class. The 65cc (7-9) Limited class also proved to be a successful outing for the home-track hero as Pine put together 4-1 moto finishes, resulting in a 2nd place overall which earned him some valuable Dirty 100 points. The Shift backed athlete was able to keep up his speed and confidence at a high level throughout the many months away from racing, returning to competition at the Ranch in excellent form. Pine finished all six motos on the podium and came away with two wins at the Loretta Lynn Amateur National Motocross Championship, ultimately taking the top spot in the 65cc (7-9) Limited class. His 1-1-3 moto scores were good enough for a perfect 50 point score and he backed it up in the 65cc (7-9) class with a 3rd place overall, collecting 42 total points in the Dirty 100 rankings. Pine had some bad luck in the same class when racing finally got underway at the Baja Brawl and although he finished 3rd place in the first moto, he only came away with 18 points at the end of the weekend. Nonetheless, he’s still holding onto a solid top ten position in the points standings and there are three riders only 6 points ahead. On the other hand, Pine has a pretty substantial gap on the rest of the competition in the 65cc (7-9) Limited class, putting him exactly where he wants to be heading into The Motoplayground Race at Ponca City. His 35 point lead almost guarantees the title in the 65cc (7-9) Limited Dirty 100 division while he’s got a little bit of ground to make up in the 65cc (7-9) Limited class, providing him with some extra motivation when the gate drops in Ponca.
