Back in 2016, Derek Drake was a couple of years in with the Orange Brigade team and competing in the Schoolboy 1 (12-16) B/C and 125cc (12-16) B/C classes. The Californian had a strong showing that year and came away with solid finishes in both of his classes, finishing on the podium in four out of six motos and taking a moto win as well. Drake ended up 5th place in Schoolboy 1 after a 13th in the final moto dropped him down the overall results sheet, but two 3rd place finishes in the first two motos gave him confidence in the 125cc (12-16) B/C class. The KTM rider captured what was his best Loretta Lynn’s overall finish at the time as he finished in 2nd place overall, taking the win in the second moto. Drake went on to win his first title at the Ranch the following year in the 250 B Limited class and he went out on top in 2018 with both titles in the A class.
