Ryder Lane really made a name for himself last year late in the season with extremely strong finishes in the 51cc (4-6) Shaft Drive Limited class at both The Motoplayground Race at Ponca City and Mini Os. The young rider hailing from Georgia picked up the pace on the PW in the final months of the season, performing at a level that was unmatched by most of his competitors on the little bikes. Lane went 2-1 at Ponca City and put himself on the top spot of the overall podium, claiming his first bigtime number one plate of the season against some of the top contenders in the country. About a month later, the Georgian made the trip south to Florida for Mini Os and picked up right where he left off on the supercross track, returning to the top of the box in the PW class as the most consistently successful of the bunch in a three moto format. Lane won the first and last moto and established himself as the fastest rider on the track which carried over into the 51cc (4-6) Limited class as he scored a top ten finish on his KTM. He’s had some solid finishes throughout the 2020 season thus far, namely snagging a top-five overall in the E-Bike Mini class at Spring A Ding Ding. We reached out to Ryder to ask about receiving an oversized teddy bear on the podium at The Motoplayground Race at Ponca City, winning races last year, and what he likes to do outside of motocross.

What did you do during the few months that there was no racing happening with the coronavirus lockdown in effect?

We spent a little time at the beach house. I did a little fishing with my papa and rode some pit bikes.

Did you take some time off of riding when racing was initially canceled and postponed back in March?

We didn't take much time off. Luckily, Georgia and most of the southeast has been easy going and we were able to ride a lot. We rode at our house a good bit and went down to GPF, Sunshine MX, and a few other places to get some riding in.

What was your riding situation like the last couple of months during the quarantine?

It has been awesome. My dad and my little brother Cruz have been going everywhere.

What do you like to do for fun and entertainment outside of motocross?

Fishing is probably my favorite. Other than that I like to ride my Stacyc and my Onewheel.

How was it for you to win the PW class last year at The Motoplayground Race at Ponca City?

It was awesome and so much fun to win my first big race. I can't wait to go back this year!

What did you think when you saw that giant teddy bear on the podium?

IT WAS HUGE! We had a hard time carrying it and we were so glad that it fit in the trailer.

What do you think about the track at Ponca?

I liked it a lot! It got rough and rutted and that helped me out.

How did the last race of the 2019 season at Mini Os go for you?

It was awesome to get my second championship in the PW class! I also got a top ten on my KTM mini which was pretty cool.

What was the experience of racing Supercross Futures like at the beginning of the season?

I had a hard time adapting to the supercross track but towards the end I was able to get moving. The pros go so fast on that stuff!

How has it felt to finally be back at the races after not being on the gate for two whole months?

It was good to be back at the track and get to race. Getting to run around and play with all my buddies is awesome, too.

Are you planning on hitting one of the last Super Regionals to try and qualify for Loretta’s?

We did two of the Super Regionals but luck wasn't on our side. It’s time to head to the beach!
