Just about 3 years.

Were you into motorcycles before becoming a moto dad?

Yes, I raced motocross as a kid and couldn’t wait to share the same fun with my own kids. 

Describe a typical race weekend for you.

I load the van the night before we leave and we drive at late hours of the night or early in the morning. It helps keep my wife and kids from stopping at every tourist location and food place.

What’s your family’s favorite meal to have at the track?

Hamburgers and hotdogs. 

Do you have any pre-race rituals or superstitions while spectating?

Gauge and I have a holler we do before each moto to pump him up “woooo!”

Most nerve-wracking moment watching your kid(s) race/ride?

Probably would have to be the start.

Favorite part about spending time at the track?

Being with my family, because I work all week while they’re training and miss out on that time.

Favorite and least favorite part about traveling to the races?

Favorite is getting to the track! Least favorite would be having to stop so many times on the way to the track.

Craziest travel story?

Our first trip to Loretta’s was a mess. We had 2 blowouts on our trailer, we couldn’t find a tire shop within 30 miles. I had to unhook the trailer and drop it. I sent the wife and kids to the nearest tire shop while I sat in a lawn chair next to the trailer with my cooler, of course, until they returned.

Most important lesson motocross teaches at a young age?

Self-discipline and heart. These kids work their butts off during the week!

Biggest sacrifice you’ve had to make for amateur motocross?

My time away from family, working long hours during the week to make sure we are able to travel the world to race.

Proudest moment of your career as a moto dad thus far?

The amount of compliments received from other moto families for Gauge. It doesn’t go unnoticed.

Freestone.

Curren Thurman.

Any advice for the moto dads of the future?

Stay calm and try not to yell at your kid, always encourage them and pump them up. Let them know they’re capable of anything. Help others when you can. Motocross will go a long way with the help of everyone in the sport.
