SAWYER GIECK

What’s your name and where are you from?

My name is Sawyer Gieck. I’m 8 years old (AMA 7) and from Alpine, Wyoming. It’s a pretty cool place – big mountains – but too much snow!

What classes do you race?

I race the 51cc (7-8) and the 65cc (7-9) classes.

How did you get into motorcycles?

I had one of those strider bikes when I was a little kid and I broke the frame because I rode it so much and tried to jump it, so my dad thought I should try a dirt bike.

Tell us about your first race.

It was hard! I was 6 years old and it was in Preston, Idaho. I had a really squirrely start and cut off a bunch of kids! I had so much fun, even though I rolled everything, I still wasn’t last!

What other sports do you like?

Mountain biking, Crossfit, and football in the backyard with my cousins.

Describe a typical day at the track for you.

I’d go out and start with a couple of laps standing to get a feel for the track. Then I’d spin some laps with my buddies, maybe do some sprints or whatever my coach has in mind, sometimes just free ride. Then we come back and have some snacks and go out and ride some more. When we’re done training we play a fun game called foot down and then we go build toy dirt bike tracks.

Favorite meal to have before you race?

Well, if it’s breakfast my favorite is chocolate chip pancakes, bacon, and a smoothie. If it’s lunch, definitely mac n cheese. Dinner is steak and salad.

Best moment on a motocross bike?

Probably when I got 3rd in one of my motos at Loretta’s!

Best road trip story.

On our way home from a race in St. George, Utah last year my Dad stopped in Salt Lake and surprised us with a wiener dog puppy! His name is Hank.

What’s your favorite track to ride?

Loretta’s for sure! I like how rough it gets and I love the battles!

Who is your favorite professional racer and why?

Ken Roczen because I think it’s so cool that he came back to racing after having really bad injuries and he’s still super fast.  He’s also not dirty and he’s super nice to talk to –  it’s cool that he takes time to talk to kids like me.

Who would you like to thank for helping you out?

Jesus Christ for keeping me safe and giving me strength. My dad, mom, and sisters. Fly Racing, Spy Goggles, Ryno Power, Mika Metals, 6D Helmets, DT1, Let’s Ride Race Team, Track and Trail PT, LCC, Illusive, OGIO, DRS Suspension, Wrap It Utah, Bridger Fitness, TRex moto, RMX and Riley Brough – my awesome coach.
