ADAM SMERDON

What’s your name and where are you from?
Adam Smerdon. Glass House Mountains Australia, but I now live in Cairo, Georgia.
What classes do you race?
Schoolboy 2, 250B Limited, 250B and 450B Limited
How did you get into motorcycles?
My dad had a bike that he rode in the woods and my older brother had a CRF50 that got handed down to me. We used to ride around our farm and in the woods with dad in Australia. As we got older and got bigger bikes, dad built us a track on the farm. My first bike which was handed down from my older brother was a CRF50. One of the first times I rode it I got whiskey throttle and rode straight into an avocado tree and knocked a tooth out.
Tell us about your first race.
I was riding a KTM 50 and got cleaned out by a girl in the first turn!
What other sports do you like?
Australian Football League (AFL). I played for the Brisbane Lions Junior Academy in middle school.
Describe a typical day at the track for you.
I have gym at 7:30 to warm up, then ride from around 9 am - 1:30 pm. Then I have lunch and then gym in the afternoon. I have just finished Year 12 during the COVID-19 shutdown, so now I have more time to hang out after riding.
Favorite meal to have before you race?
Chicken pasta.
Best moment on a motocross bike?
Learning how to do a heel clicker.
Best road trip story.
Doing home school every time we go racing for hours on end, without complaining, and really enjoying mum putting extra books in the RV for me to finish while we are driving!
What’s your favorite track to ride?
Ben Townley’s track in New Zealand. It has a lot of different styles of jumps and is an elevated track and is really fun to ride.
Who is your favorite professional racer and why?
Chad Reed because he has accomplished a lot in his career on and off the track, and is one of the most recognizable people in motocross. He came from simple beginnings, had a big dream to race in the USA and believed in himself.
Who would you like to thank for helping you out?
My mum and dad. They’re the reason I made it to America, selling everything so we could come to the USA. Also my entire extended family supporting us and not being able to spend time with us so we can chase our dream. My older brother still lives in Australia so we don’t get to see him as much as we would like. Colleen, Little Bryan, Big Bryan, Brad, Jacob and Lauren from MTF. They are always pushing me even when I am not feeling it. Everyone else who help us out so we can continue racing; Factory Connection, Florida Motorsports, Troy Lee Designs, FMF, Protaper, Acerbis, Factory Effex, Twin Air, Dunlop, Twisted Development, Dubya, and Skullcandy.
