What’s your name?
Where are you from?
Who is(are) your rider(s)?
How long have you been a moto mom?
Were you into motorcycles before becoming a moto mom?
Yes, I rode trails as a kid and grew up always wanting to race, but being daddy’s only little girl, he said “NO!”
Describe a typical race weekend for you.
Race weekends start on Thursday’s depending on how far the race is, I grocery shop Thursday’s during the day, load up Thursday evening and we head out early Friday morning. Depending on dad’s workweek load I head out with the kids and dad meets us at the track for race day. The longest drive I’ve ever made alone for a race with the kids was nineteen hours straight through the night to Byron, Illinois for the North Central Regional. I had a best friend ride with me, but we were moto moms just winging it. The best memory that weekend was Gauge achieving his first-ever ticket to LORETTA LYNNS 2019.
What’s your family’s favorite meal at the track?
Our favorite meal at the track would most likely be burgers and Dustin’s famous RIBS.
Do you have any pre-race rituals or superstitions while spectating?
I’m very superstitious, if Gauge is riding well or winning I have to stand in the same spot each moto. If he doesn’t ride well I pick a new spot to watch. I also don’t like talking much while he’s racing. I’m not being rude, but I’m focused on my kid! Also, Before Gauge races Gauge and I say a prayer at the gate each time with him before the gate drops.
Most nerve-wracking moment watching your kid(s) race/ride?
The holeshot of every gate drop makes me a nervous wreck. What if he goes down? What if there is a pile-up he gets stuck behind? All the what if’s!
Favorite part about being at the track?
My favorite part about traveling is spending time extra days to go sightseeing, Nannie would be so proud! Least favorite part is hearing “how much longer?” when traveling with the little ones that are moto siblings. Gauge’s little sister Blakely has been such a trooper since 18 months old.
Favorite and least favorite part about traveling to the races?
Traveling to the races can be long and tiring, sometimes days. Seeing Talon and Triston with old friends and making new friends, makes the entire trip worth it no matter how long of a drive.
Craziest travel story?
The craziest story I’ve ever had to experience is traveling across Texas from an area qualifier to make it to another race and Gauge and I were hit by a drunk driver. We had ZERO cell phone service and it took EMS 45 min to find us. We’re thankful for the Olson’s a moto family that came to our rescue!
The most important lesson motocross teaches at a young age.
The best lesson moto has taught Gauge, at 8 years old is that he has so much more self-discipline than your average kid his age.
What’s your secret to getting all the dirt stains out of riding gear?
Soak them in OXI CLEAN and wash in hot water.
Proudest moment of your career as a moto mom thus far?
The proudest moment would be the day Gauge earned his first ticket to Loretta's in 2019 as a 7-year-old in the 7-8 class.
What’s your favorite track?
My favorite track would have to be Three Palms & Freestone!
Who is your favorite pro racer?
What is your favorite genre of music?
What is your favorite movie/tv show?
Favorite movie is Tammy
What is in your red solo cup?
Truly’s! Ask anyone.
Any advice for the moto moms of the future?
The best advice I can give anyone and not just moto moms is ALWAYS be a parent first! They’ll never forget what their mom did. So race the mom race, take the trip, because the smile on their face is always worth it!
